Hawa Mahal

Hawa Mahal, translated as the “Palace of Winds,” is a mesmerizing architectural gem in Jaipur, India. Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, this five-story pink sandstone structure is renowned for its intricate lattice work and 953 small windows (jharokhas) designed to allow cool breezes to flow through, providing respite in the scorching Rajasthan heat. Resembling a honeycomb or crown, the palace stands as a unique blend of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles. Its purpose was to allow royal women to observe street festivals and daily life without being seen. Hawa Mahal remains a symbol of Jaipur’s rich history and cultural heritage.
